My husband and I took a trip to Maine and chose the colony hotel because it was pet friendly. We stayed in the pet friendly rooms that were recently renovated. The rooms itself were very nice and comfortable to stay in, however, the service was awful. The WiFi did not work and kept cutting in and out. If you’re looking to work on your vacation choose a different hotel. The staff did not care. Additionally, the parking lot was not salted adequately and both my husband and I slipped and fell while walking to the car. Management could care less about the comfort of their guests stay. The rooms are beautiful but everything else was not great.

Service was horrible. The rooms look cool, at least the one that we had did. Be advised, there is no AC which may be a problem depending on what time of year you're there. The toilet paper was so cheap and scratchy we bought some in town, which shouldn't be the case for $500 per night room.

The club down in the bar room was the main problem. They rented the hotel out for a wedding and despite quiet hours starting at 10pm. They were blasting music until almost midnight. The problem was that we were not in town for the on property wedding. We were there for a different wedding off property. Apparently, they messed up, and usually put someone from the wedding in the rooms above the bar room. That didn't happen on this particular weekend. We were told the manager was going to reach out to remedy the situation. Well, she never did and I've finally gotten around to writing a review. The hotel is old world and cool. Bring your own TP and make sure you're not in one of the 6 rooms above the bar room area (south side of the building). If they knew anything about customer service the manager should have reached out to apologize and comp one of our nights.

Out side of that, the location is great, right on the water, near great restaurants, the Bush compound, etc.

Beautiful coastal hotel with amazing views of the ocean. We enjoyed a ocean view room that was beautiful, and had dinner at the Marine room which was delicious. The only reason my review does not get 5 stars is because of a negative experience I witnessed with a hotel staff member during the continental breakfast. Upon being seated to eat, next to us was a man eating alone and watching a very loud video on his phone. It was so loud I could hear it from the buffet area. After about 20 minutes, a woman approached the man asking him to politely turn down the video, which the man rudely denied. He continued to watch the video on full blast until he finished. Then he got up, turned to the woman, and gave her a threatening gesture, and said some things under his breath. It wasn't until this point I realized he was a Colony Hotel staff member!! I was shocked that a worker would be that disrespectful to guests at the hotel. I did not catch his name, but I hope the hotel staff sees this and does something about it. People pay too much and come too far to stay at this hotel to be disrespected by staff members.

We stayed here early October. Being from Texas, the rooms were a little hot because there was no AC. It was nice to have the overhead fan however. I love the location, being able to walk to the beach. And service was awesome. We really enjoyed Donovan’s hospitality. We also enjoyed the buffet breakfast. Well some people say the rooms are dated, I kind of liked the vintage feel to it.

We loved this hotel! From the time we arrived and were greeted with a glass of champagne to our checkout, our visit there was wonderful. The location was amazing. We enjoyed walks on the beach and watching the beautiful sunsets. It is approximately one mile from town so not too bad if you want to walk there. They also have bicycles that you can use. Previous reviews I read complained about it being a “dated” hotel. Please note it is a “historic” hotel (built in 1914)…it is not a modern Hyatt. They have keys (gasp!) that unlock the doors (instead of plastic touch cards) and the original glass doorknobs on the bathroom. Our room was huge and faced the ocean. The sound of the waves lulled us to sleep at night…it was so peaceful and perfect. |There is a heated pool and plenty of seating around it. I’m not sure who could complain about the breakfast buffet as there was always an extensive selection of just about anything hot or cold that you could want. The hot selections changed each day. We ate dinners in town so I cannot comment on the restaurant. |But it was the people that worked there that made our visit! Everyone was so friendly and helpful. If and when we return to Kennebunkport, we will definitely stay at the Colony Hotel again!

The hotel is historic and the public areas have a lot of charm but the rooms are very dated and small. Also there is no air conditioning which wasn’t a problem when we were there because the evening temps were fairly low and we didn’t need it. Bathrooms are old and small. The only restaurant is very casual with a pub-type menu and most of the seating is open air so if the weather is not good, there really isn’t a lot of space inside. The food was good and the service was very friendly and nice. There is a complimentary full breakfast included which was nice. The hotel staff, in general, were very nice and accommodating. The location is great. At these prices, however, the rooms were a big disappointment. This hotel is “pet friendly” to an extreme it seems. We have never seen so many dogs staying at a hotel! While we are dog lovers, listening to an incessantly yapping dog is never a pleasant experience. Not sure I would go back.
