The Maine Celebration of Lights at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds is an amazing holiday experience! We drove 48 minutes from our home with the family, and it was worth every penny of the $23 per vehicle admission. For travelers or visitors, it’s about a 20-25 minute drive from Portland, Maine.

Be prepared for a bit of a wait as you enter and get through the ticketing area, but once you’re in, it’s a smooth, one-lane, slow-paced drive through the stunning light display. There’s so much to see and talk about—it’s a magical experience for kids and families alike. This was such an exciting and memorable outing, and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommend!

Pretty basic fair. Not a ton of things to do unless you like rides. If you are looking for good food don’t get food near the rides. Go to the other side of the fair.

Perfect day at the Fair! Beautiful spring weather, great local agriculture, harness racing, live music, and a HUGE assortment of local food options including vegan and gluten free! Plus, of course, all the regular carnival food: fried dough, funnel cakes, candied apples, pizza, popcorn, Italian sausages, fries, etc.

We always go on the day when you can buy an unlimited ride bracelet for $25. That pays for itself with 4 adult rides or 5 kiddie rides. Then everyone can ride the thrilling rides to their heart's desire. (For 2023 that is Monday 9/25).

P.S. Fairgrounds Admission is $12 per person this year. Kids 12 and under are free. Many things (including admission and tickets) are still cash only. Free parking. So hit up the ATM and put on comfortable shoes before you arrive!

My family loved the animals which is the main reason for going. None of us were interested in the rides but still payed almost $50 for the four of us to get in to walk around for an hour.
I found one booth collecting donations to be rather aggressive with their approach and most of the shops all had the exact same items.
Over all we had a decent time but this fair could make small changes to be great.

Grabbed up a last minute camp spot right in front of the race track. Was able to bring our dog too. Had water and electric hook ups and a dump station and trash cans.
We arrived to harness racing going on, which we were able to place some beta at the grandstands, grab a burger and a beer, than watch the races from our camper with the dog. Very open areas, and the summer sun was brutal, so bring shade options. We ended up arriving also when they had a festival on one side of the race track and a dog show going on, on the otherside. So all in all a very active place.

We always enjoy going to this fair as it has a small community feel to it. We typically enter at the gate by the animals which is a great place to start, with exhibits and farm animals, however this time we entered at the other end where the games and rides are. I had my 2 grandsons with me and had a difficult time to get down to the other end of the fair. The rides are 4-5 tickets at $1 per ticket and it quickly got expensive. The games and some rides wouldn’t take tickets and cost $5 and up. The food was mediocre and expensive so overall my experience was negative but the kids enjoyed it.

An annual tradition for our family. As a grandparent visiting with 2 young children, I especially appreciated the discounts the Fair makes available to help the visit be affordable-senior discount and bracelet nights. The animal petting area and food booths were great as always.
